This session, “Construction Materials Testing & Geotechnical Engineering: Building from the Ground Up,” will feature Shane Whittier, P.E. of Pacifica Engineering Services and serves as Part 1 of a two-part educational series focused on understanding the construction side of land development.
During this classroom-based session, attendees will gain a foundational understanding of geotechnical engineering, construction materials testing, and the critical role these disciplines play in successful project delivery. The knowledge gained in this session will prepare attendees for Part 2 in July, where participants will take what they've learned into the field and see these concepts applied on an active project site.
Attendees will gain insight into:
• Geotechnical investigations and subsurface evaluations
• Proctor testing and density requirements
• Concrete testing and quality assurance procedures
• Penetration testing and field verification methods
• LBR (Limerock Bearing Ratio) testing and roadway design considerations
• The importance of construction materials testing in reducing project risk
• How developers, engineers, and contractors utilize testing data to make informed decisions
• Real-world applications that attendees will experience during the July field session
This two-part series is designed to provide developers, engineers, contractors, project managers, and land professionals with both the classroom knowledge and hands-on field exposure needed to better understand the engineering and testing processes that support successful land development projects.
