Construction Materials Testing & Geotechnical Engineering: Building from the Ground Up

  • Pacifica Engineering Services, LLC - Suite 29 6900 Philips Highway Jacksonville, Florida, 32216 United States (map)

Join us on July 7, 2026, for Part 2 of our educational series, "Beyond the Report: A Behind-the-Scenes Look at Construction Materials Testing," hosted by Pacifica Engineering Services at their Jacksonville testing laboratory located at 6900 Philips Highway, Suite 29, Jacksonville, FL 32216.

Following our June classroom session, this hands-on experience will take attendees beyond the reports, specifications, and test results to see firsthand how construction materials testing is actually performed. Led by Shane Whittier, P.E., attendees will tour the laboratory, observe live demonstrations, and gain a deeper understanding of the testing procedures that help ensure successful land development projects.

While many land professionals regularly review geotechnical reports, density reports, concrete test results, and LBR findings, few have the opportunity to see how those results are generated. This session provides a unique behind-the-scenes look at the equipment, processes, and engineering expertise that support development projects from planning through construction.

Attendees will gain insight into:

Laboratory testing procedures used throughout the development process

Soil classification and geotechnical testing methods

Concrete testing and quality assurance practices

Density testing and compaction verification

• The equipment and technology used to perform construction materials testing

• How test results are interpreted and utilized by engineers, developers, contractors, and municipalities

• The role testing plays in reducing risk, improving quality, and preventing costly construction issues

• Real-world examples of common field and laboratory challenges

This session is ideal for developers, engineers, project managers, contractors, land acquisition professionals, and land development professionals looking to better understand the science, engineering, and testing that help transform raw land into successful communities.

Part 1: Construction Materials Testing & Geotechnical Engineering: Building from the Ground Up (Completed June 23)

Part 2: Beyond the Report: A Behind-the-Scenes Look at Construction Materials Testing (July 7)

By attending both sessions, participants will gain a comprehensive understanding of construction materials testing and geotechnical engineering—from the foundational concepts discussed in the classroom to the real-world testing procedures performed every day in the laboratory and field.
